New: Tan Dollar - Tan Dollar

Our buddy's 'Tan Dollar' have released a new mp3 and guess what? It's pretty fantastic. "Tan Dollar," the self titled mp3, has a amazing piano part that is backed up by some crazy percussion and an incredible bass line. Chrome Wings

Hey guyz, we back! Midterms were rough but we got through em' aight. Anyway I've got some great stuff for y'all today. 'Chrome Wings' is an amazing ambient pop outfit from Portland, Oregon. Other than putting out some great jams, these guys are the nicest of people. The process of getting the mp3's to our ears was annoying, to say the least. After about six or seven failed Sendspace attempts and one failed Mediafire account, I finally got the songs. Through the whole agonizing process, Jon (1/2 of 'CW') couldn't have been nicer or tried harder to send me the jams, because he's the best. So, much love and all that. Anyway back to the music. "New Legs," a what seems to be a tribute to old Gameboy sound effects is just incredible. Subtle tones and a hint of melody trickle through the song and create something both beautiful and haunting, picture a Double Dragons cut but remixed into something ten times better. Byrds Of Paradise

'Byrds Of Paradise' was first introduced to us by the coolest of dudes, over at ye ol' Friendship Bracelet. 'Byrds' has been blowing up all over our buddy's sites, and rightfully so, these guy's put out the jams. Brilliant guitar work and gleaming vocals are 'Byrds' main attributes. "Paradise DC," lo-fi pop wise, is one of the best pop anthems, I've heard all year. The guitar part in this song is so amazing. I find that music becomes increasingly genuine the simpler it gets, you honestly don't need much to create great tunes. This group exemplifies originality, what this outfit can do with a couple guitars, a bass, and some drums, is in a word, exceptional. Air Waves

If you're in Seattle right now you know that it's pouring, luckily I've got the perfect cure for the rainy day blues. 'Air Waves' were kind enough to hook it up with a couple new tracks. 'Air Waves' has been on our radar for a while now, with songs like "Shine On" and "Knockout" blowing up on the headquarters of our blogging buddy's, it's been hard to avoid the amazing surf folk. With the low amount of vitamin d around here during the winter, it's nice to have a band that can cheer you up, once and a while. "Lightning," a gorgeous love song that rivals any 'Magnetic Fields' jam, echos with a gauzy acoustic strum and a lush electric pick. The Young Friends

It doesn't get much better, daydream wise, than 'The Young Friends,' their catchy pop tunes kept playing over and over, while in class today. You just can't deny the catchyness(?) of this band. The incredible "North End / South End EP," that's free I might add, is quickly becoming on of my favorite EP's of this year. On "Make Out Point," jangly guitar hooks mash with the moan of simple yet perfect lyrics, "New girl came from out of town, know this time I'll come around. The Choir Quit

I can not stop listening to this new jam I just got from 'The Choir Quit,' it is honestly the perfect soundtrack for the weekend. 'The Choir Quit,' is a new lo-fi band from South Carolina. The tunes are mostly guitar based anthems with hints of summer. Sunny vocals and fuzzy instrumentals make 'TCQ' a great addition to this years rising trend, of lo-fi acts. "Saturday Night," the bands most catchiest of tunes, is a blissed out gem thats just dying to be danced to. Snag "Saturday Night," "Mbur///" and peep the dates, after the jump.

Meth Dad

'Meth Dad' isn't your usual run of the mill freak folk no this is something different, something much more ethereal. I'm not sure this can even be put in the genre. 'MD' is a Tennessee outfit based more in freak than folk, that utilizes odd and alluring sounds to create some pretty chill jams. "Tars," my personal favorite song on the awesome "All Beached Out EP," is just straight incredible. It starts out as any other lo-fi song would but takes a turn for the awesome, around twenty two seconds or so. Technoir MA

Well it should come as no surprise to you guys that we love some good pop music round here and today we've got something super special for yall. 'Technoir MA,' a Massachusetts based outfit produces some of the most epic guitar pop that I've heard since 'Pains.' Seriously, how these guys haven't just blown up is a complete mystery. The vocals sound like Jan Scott Wilkinson and Bernard Sumner had a love child. "Roundabout," the bands first song off their amazing three jam EP, is a straight up revival of Joy Division, New Order era pop punk. The guitar parts are indescribable. Guy Dallas

Good dance music isn't scarce these days, most of it being produced by the likes of 'Cut Copy' and 'Girl Talk,' it makes it that much harder for amazing new artists like 'Guy Dallas' to find a footing in the industry. Luckily, 'GD' puts out some amazing jams, it's best described as dance music for the lo-fi generation. On "Slangin," 'GD's' sickest single, bleeps and bloops pulse as bass is laid down for a robotic, slam dance, jam. Snag "Slangin" and peep the dates, after the jump.

Dirty Beaches

'Dirty Beaches' is a lo-fi, psych project from Montreal. Its hard to explain the sound, it basically sounds like a soundtrack to a old 60's beach movie. It's balmy, jangly, surf psych. "Coast To Coast" from 'DB's' upcoming tape, is a chill, laid back, song with shimmering instrumentals and Roy Orbison-esque vocals. Eternal Summers

The other day is was going through ye ol' email and was pleasantly surprised when I discovered 'RR's' buddy's 'Eternal Summers' had sent me a promo for their aw-inspiring self titled EP. The sound is best described as a refreshing take on the summery, dream pop that we've all been used to lately. "Fall Straight Back," my favorite song off their new EP, is a balmy, blissed out masterpiece which perfectly showcase Nichols amazing vocals and Daniel's chill drum style. Silver Pines

Just got some more ambient stuff for yall. It's from a awesome band from Texas named, 'Silver Pines.' Incredible guitar work and balmy vocals breathe a breath of fresh air into the now dwindling shoegaze genre. These guys puts out some bewitching tunes, my favorite being a song named "Glass Church." Just the right amount of instrumentals back the incredible vocals and create a ideal soundtrack for a mountain drive. Check out "Glass Church" and the dates, after the jump.

Assassins 88

I've got some more noise-ish, lo-fi for you guys today. It's from the amazing Aussie duo 'Assassins 88.' I just found out about these guys from a buddy the other day and managed to get my hands on their first release, "Go Go Second Chance Virgin." The whole album is great but there is one song that was just amazing. The song is called "Age of Consent," Listen I don't know what these guys used to record this but it's bloody terrific. Screaming guitar and a massive drum part set up the song, which is shortly followed by crazy distorted vocals. Family Portrait

Is it possible to be too cool? A question that has riddled my mind for the past few days, because lo-fi outfit 'Family Portrait' just might be. Let's check out the facts, Stellar vocals, amazing bass lines, solid percussion, and amazing guitar parts. The hooks that these guys produce are hands down some of the best, put on vinyl, period. Take "On The Floor," one of my favorite songs of this year, for example. It starts with some watered down vocals and is mixed with a blissed out guitar strum to culminate into one of the best tunes of this year. So is it possible to be to cool? Maybe, if it is, 'Family Portrait' has definitely achieved it. Grab "On The Floor," "Mega Secrets," and peep the dizzates, after the jump.

The Light Rays

Ah, the beach, how we do love it. The sun, the sand, the waves, etc, etc. Living on the west coast does have it's benefits, something that 'The Light Rays' seem to have captured in their music. Radiant guitar hooks, airy drum parts, catchy baselines, and even some chill organ stuff, all contribute to this bands off-the-wall uniqueness. "Surf Song," the third song off their outstanding demo, channels the 1950's like no other beach rock I've heard this past (tear) summer. Wonder Wheel

'Wonder Wheel,' is a tribal, glo-fi solo project based out of Orange County. I caution you though, listening to 'WW' will provoke extreme hood up, head bobbing. "Over the Top," the second track on the outstanding "Peters Plant Food" LP, is a great example of how progressive the "Low-Tide" movement has gotten. Booming drum kits shuffle with warm, glowing, synth to create a massive 'Animal-esque' anthem. Grab "Over The Top," some bonus Mp3's and check out the dates, after the jump.

Dash Jacket

By know all of you have probably heard of 'Dash Jacket.' The fresh faced lo-fi duo have been blowing up all over the "blogosphere". Rightfully so I might add. When it comes to recording in your bedroom your resources tend to become pretty limited. Yet, 'DJ' has made the most of it, endearing vocals and exceptional instrumentals create a unique sound that transcends the lo-fi genre. "Anna Says," off the bands "Atoner EP", is a perfect example of the duo's creative genius. Grab "Anna Says," two bonus Mp3's, and peep the tour dates, after the jump.

Timber Timbre

'Timber Timbre' is an eerie folk project from Toronto. They've been around for a little while but its not till recently, I've heard about them. The haunting "Demon Host," is a balmy, and subdued song that only involves a boy, a piano, a few friends, and a guitar. It starts with some drafty guitar strumming followed by ghostly vocals, which lead into unearthly choir chanting. It's an all around exquisite track, perfect for the fall. Tan Dollar

'Tan Dollar' is a great three person pop outfit based out of Irvine, California that produce a massive sound. Heartwarming keyboard pieces and epic drum productions are this bands main attributes. "The Turning Point," the bands stand out single, is on the brink of pop perfection. Sunny synth, crashing drums, warm vocals, are all implemented to produce one outstanding song. Big Troubles

'Big Troubles' is another catchy lo-fi project based out of New Jersey. Samuel from 'Fluffy Lumbers' actually suggested them and we're glad he did. Their incredible single "Freudian Slips," contains some of this years catchiest guitar work. Pounding percussion and water drenched vocals also add to 'Big Troubles' wonderful charm.
