Ocean Bump!

Ambient music has become a recent staple for me these days, between 'Pink Priest' and 'Cough Cool' I've been pretty satisfied. That is until I heard 'Ocean Bump!' This project is on the same level as the aforementioned 'PP/CC,' sunny, balmy, just a all around great listen. Take "Weathered Film" for instance, every time I play this song I feel like I could break it, the melody's are so delicate that the smallest noise could ruin the whole jam for you. Jen Paul / No Lakes

What makes a good ambient song? That question has been in the back of my mind all summer. With awesome bands like Wild Safari, Cough Cool, and Pink Priest generating a lot of buzz, ambient music seems to be a fairly applicable thing to talk about. I know some people say, "Oh man, ambient music is something that you should be able to fall asleep to (ugh)." I beg to differ, personally I believe that ambient genre should be savored, it's not something you fall asleep to, it's something you contemplate. Take for example "Jen Paul / No Lakes," a ambient, shoegazey, solo project from Jersey. 'No Lakes' is a outfit that definitely should be admired. Oozing with teen angst, 'No lakes' is ambiance personified, or to put it shortly, girl can jam. Whining, ethereal, guitar parts are pieced together to create an atmospheric and almost airy vibe. Cough Cool

'Cough Cool' is a breezy, ethereal, lo-fi project out of Pennsylvania. The sounds that this guy produces are unbelievable, every song that I've heard sounds so gentle and well thought out. From the ambient bass hooks to the intoxicating guitar parts, 'Cough Cool' is what so many lo-fi bands strive to be but sadly don't make the cut. "Flower Reading" is a hazy, reverb drenched track that serves as the soundtrack to either late night star gazing or a sunny Sunday afternoon. No matter which way this song is enjoyed, nothing takes away from it's subtle beauty. Pick up the Mp3 after the jump.
